The Real Problem:
You’ve Learned Words—Not Fluency

You’ve memorised vocabulary lists. You’ve tapped through “point-and-click” apps. You’ve sat in classrooms, repeated phrases, maybe even travelled.
But when it’s time to actually speak, your mind blanks, your words don’t come out smoothly, and native speakers still feel “too fast.”

It’s not your fault. You’ve simply never been taught the core fluency mechanics:

  • Listening at native speed
  • Speaking with flow
  • Creating your own sentences
  • Remembering what you learned long-term
  • Improving your accent
  • Responding quickly and accurately
  • Handling real conversations—not textbook ones

Most programs skip all of this.
And that’s exactly why your Spanish still feels stuck.

What you really want?
You don’t want to “study Spanish” forever!

You want to use it comfortably, confidently, and without overthinking every word.

You want to:

  • Understand real native speakers, even when they talk fast
  • Respond without freezing
  • Speak in full, natural sentences
  • Express your own ideas, not recycled phrases
  • Finally feel fluent enough to enjoy real conversations

That’s functional fluency.
It's speech that flows, works, and gets you understood, even if it’s not 100% perfect.

A Smarter Way to Build Fluency

Build Spanish Fluency: Foundation is built on the Automatic Fluency® method—the only system designed to build fluency the same way children learn their first language:
through daily, understandable, spoken interaction with real native speakers.

It’s not more grammar. Not more flashcards. This is a structured, simple-to-follow program that trains the actual skill of fluency using:

  • Comprehensible input (you always understand what’s happening)
  • Native-speaker modelling
  • Guided imitation
  • Original sentence-building techniques
  • Interval memory training
  • Accent and comprehension practice
  • High-frequency vocabulary woven naturally into every lesson

And it all fits into everyday “down time” so you get better without rearranging your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What’s the difference between functional fluency and native fluency?
Native fluency is very difficult to achieve. To become “native fluent” you pretty much have to either grow up with the language or live for long and extended periods with native speakers, which most people can’t do. However, with Automatic Fluency® programs, you can gradually become “functionally fluent” in a new language over time, with effort on your part. Functional fluency means your speech “flows” much like that of a native speaker, but with some accent and some mistakes. It’s effective and it works. Functional fluency means you will speak and understand your new language effectively, sometimes imperfectly and with some accent, but your speech will flow smoothly and understandably. The word “fluent” comes from the Latin word “fluere,” meaning “to flow.” Functional fluency means your new language communication flows and works, even if it’s not always perfect or native-sounding.
  2. What two words best describe Automatic Fluency® programs?
Automatic and simple. Automatic: Automatic Fluency® programs build your functional fluency simply and automatically every day by weaving the instruction into your daily routine and your otherwise wasted “down time.” Imagine becoming functionally fluent while stuck in traffic, waiting for a train, or sitting at a dentist’s appointment. Simple: You will always understand while you learn. No more guesswork. English meanings are immediately provided so you get what linguists call “comprehensible input.” Then you get expert explanations in English for every aspect of the language. Finally, native speakers constantly teach you their language the way it’s really spoken, with the correct accent. You learn your new language just like you learned English as a child — naturally, from native speakers.
  3. I have already studied languages in school and I’ve been listening to language programs and doing point-and-click apps on my phone. Doesn’t this help me become fluent?
No, not likely. Your earlier language learning may have helped you learn words and phrases, but it probably hasn’t increased your functional fluency at all. Your mind is not wired to become fluent with point-and-click language apps. You need daily understandable speaking interaction with real native speakers, just like the ones used in these programs.
  4. What’s the difference between Automatic Fluency® programs and other programs?
A huge difference. Only Automatic Fluency® programs focus exclusively on one target: increasing your functional fluency every day. This means focused, concentrated, and serious speaking, understanding, and memory building with each minute you spend with the program.
  5. Can you give me an example of how an Automatic Fluency® lesson would differ from a standard language approach?
Yes. Most language programs teach you how to say certain words or phrases, but they never show you how to put it all together to create real, original, meaningful, spontaneous, and understandable functionally fluent language that comes out of your mouth and into the ears of native speakers.
  6. What do you mean by pattern-rich and vocabulary-rich simplicity?
Other language programs focus on just a few words and phrases that they try to pound into you with a lot of ineffective patterns. Automatic Fluency® programs are both pattern-rich and vocabulary-rich. Instead of throwing one egg at a wall and hoping it sticks, these programs throw tons of understandable, high-frequency words at you — the words native speakers use every day — so you learn a new language just like you learned English as a child. Your parents and siblings didn’t use only seven or eight words around you when you learned English. You heard tons of fluent English constantly, and your mind picked up some words faster than others. Being exposed to vocabulary rich in high-frequency language dramatically increases your learning speed. Add to this the techniques only Automatic Fluency® programs have: original sentence-building techniques taught from the beginning, so you avoid the boring canned language other programs give you. You learn to express your own thoughts and needs immediately. Then you’re prompted to “remember” what you’ve learned using Mark Frobose’s interval memory technique — because the only language you can use is the language you can remember and use effectively. You also get constant accent improvement, comprehension practice, and many other features that build your functional fluency with every lesson.
  7. What do you mean by “building” functional fluency every day?
Imagine you’re building a house. You’ve never built one, so you order a “do-it-yourself house-building kit.” It arrives with a pile of boards and nails and instructions you don’t understand. You’re afraid to try, and you never build the house. That’s how many language programs operate — too confusing, so you give up. Now imagine you order a house that comes with many professional builders and a master builder-teacher. They show you how to build the house over and over. Each time you pick up the wrong board, they show you the mistake, then ask you to do it correctly again and again until you get it right. You learn how to build your fluency-house without guessing.
